Celebrate eight years of exceptional artistry with Canberra’s own Grevillea Quartet in their highly anticipated debut at Belconnen Arts Centre.

As a dedicated part of the capital’s cultural fabric, the Grevillea Quartet is profoundly passionate about chamber music and sharing its rich emotional depth with local audiences. This milestone anniversary performance, Danza and Debussy, represents a continuation of their core mission: to provide Canberrans with world-class, live musical experiences right here in their home city.

The first half of the program immerses listeners in the vibrant world of Spanish musical nationalism, featuring authentic masterworks by iconic Spanish composers Albéniz, Falla, Granados, and Yvradier. These works showcase a distinct style defined by fiery passion, dramatic lyricism, and evocative, intimate textures. Completing this spirited selection is Tchaikovsky’s thrilling, romanticised take on traditional folk idioms, offering a brilliant global lens on these infectious rhythms.

This spirited celebration sets the stage for a compelling artistic contrast. The evening culminates in Claude Debussy’s groundbreaking String Quartet in G minor. As a true masterpiece of French Impressionism, this work shatters traditional rules with its shimmering textures, unique harmonies, and hypnotic rhythms, offering a brilliant look into the birth of modern chamber music.

The ensemble has spent nearly a decade enriching the local arts scene. Their journey includes acclaimed appearances at major venues across the city, regional New South Wales tours, regular appearances at the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre’s season launches, and a long-standing history of performing at Parliament House award nights.

This concert is both a celebration of community and a milestone event. Join the Grevillea Quartet for a warm, elegant evening of beautiful repertoire as they toast to eight years of musical connection and shared history with Canberra audiences.

About The Grevillea Quartet

Formed in the heart of the nation’s capital, the Grevillea Quartet was established in 2018 by a group of passionate local musicians. Driven by a deep devotion to the string quartet repertoire, the ensemble came together with a singular mission: to enrich Canberra’s cultural tapestry by sharing the profound beauty and intimacy of chamber music. Over the last eight years of dedicated music-making, this home-grown ensemble has evolved into an integral voice within the region’s arts community.

The quartet is defined by its versatile artistry and a commitment to engaging deeply with audiences. Their collective experience spans standard classical masterworks to vibrant contemporary programming, always delivered with warmth and artistic expression. Beyond performances in Canberra’s major concert spaces — including invitations to perform at award nights at the Parliament House of Australia — and local community festivals, the ensemble has toured to perform in Goulburn, Young, Cooma, and Braidwood.

Known for their engaging stage presence and thoughtful interpretations, the members of the Grevillea Quartet — violinists Vanessa Driver and Shilong Ye, violist Julia Horneman, and cellist Samuel Payne—bring a wealth of individual expertise to the ensemble. Their collaborative spirit creates a unified, evocative sound that resonates beautifully in both grand halls and intimate community venues. As the ensemble celebrates its eighth anniversary, the Grevillea Quartet remains deeply grateful for their enduring connection with Canberra audiences, proud to contribute to the heartbeat of the capital’s local music culture.
