In recent years while the world of live performance was uncertain, sound and lighting technicians have left the industry in massive numbers. Theatre lighting and sound are complex disciplines and there are few opportunities for young people to break into the industry with paid work, while learning the ropes in a safe and supportive environment. We are seeking donors to enable us to provide aspiring young technicians with real life training opportunities. TechPath is a 100% practical, hands-on program that accelerates learning through a simple model – hire young technicians to work shows to learn from our professional technical team on our shows and events.

There is an immediate, urgent need to bring through a new generation of technicians to keep performance alive.

Belco Arts is committed to developing young professionals in the arts and helping to stabilise our sector. Through our existing work experience programs we work with colleges to grow student technical skills, and TechPath is the next step of that journey. At the heart of this initiative is a commitment to empowering young individuals while addressing critical skills shortages in the field of live performance lighting and sound. Together, we will help set the stage for a brighter tomorrow.

Your donation will:

  • Engage each participant at award rates, to buddy with an experienced senior technician, to learn from them on the job.
  • Generate employment opportunities – As participants develop in proficiency and confidence, we will roster them to work independently – and, no doubt, so will other venues.
  • Create career pathways – Guide aspiring technicians towards fulfilling and viable careers, while keeping the lights on and music pumping, not just in our venue but in venues across Canberra.

Your tax-deductible donation will create new opportunities for young people.

Thank you wholeheartedly from the team at Belco Arts for your donation!
