The charismatic Steve Kilbey returns to Belco Arts for an intimate gig in The Theatre. Supported by Canberra’s own Kim Yang, Steve will perform songs from the classic Church albums, “Starfish” and “Heyday.” The acoustic show will feature stories and anecdotes from this rock legend.
About Steve Kilbey
As of 2020, Kilbey has released 14 solo albums and has collaborated on recordings with musical artists such as Martin Kennedy, Stephen Cummings and Ricky Maymi as a vocalist, musician, writer and/or producer. Ian McFarlane writes that “Kilbey’s solo recordings [are] challenging and evocative. They ran the gamut of sounds and emotions from electronic and avant-garde to acoustic and symphonic, joyous and dreamy to saturnine and sardonic”.
As of 2020, Kilbey has over 1000 original songs registered with Australian copyright agency Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA).
About Kim Yang
Inspired by Joni Mitchel and Bon Iver, Taiwanese-Australian songstress Kim Yang writes music on love, death and mental health issues with evocative lyrics, driving melodies and soaring vocals. Her ethereal blend of sounds balances delicately between vulnerability and power.
Since 2019 Kim has released 2 EPs and received various grants from ArtACT, including to produce her upcoming new project. Her music has been aired regularly on Double J radio and premiered on triple J.
Kim has supported and shared the stage with ARIA awarded artists including Katie Noonan, Josh Pyke, Ben Lee, Kate Ceberano, Fanny Lumsden and StiffGins. She is a regular at bigs gigs and festivals, including the National Folk Festival earlier this year.
This year Kim is looking to tour her recent EP and vinyl release, expand herself skills as a songwriter and a home producer. Kim has been co-writing with various artists, including Katie Wighton (All Our Exes lives in Texas) and working on a few self-produced songs for her upcoming release.
