Patch It Up

With Kerry Martin

11am-2:30pm Sunday 8 August 2021

$110 per person

Includes all materials.

Make a hand-embroidered patch suitable for sewing on to clothing or being made into a brooch. You can choose from a range of prepared designs or design your own patch that can be transferred on to fabric during the workshop. We will be using two main embroidery stitches: satin stitch and blanket stitch, but other techniques can also be incorporated. A simple patch design can be completed within the workshop, and experienced embroiderers might have time to make two. This workshop is suitable for beginners.

About Kerry Martin

Kerry Martin is a Canberra based artist working with textile, photographic and print techniques. She graduated with 1st class Honours from the ANU School of Art and Design in 2018 and is currently undertaking a creative PhD at the University of Canberra.

Kerry’s practice revolves around the visual portrayal of emotions that arise as a response to witnessing the human condition. She has examined issues relating to trauma, ageing, illness, mortality and family relationships. From time to time, she also branches out into the frivolous!

Kerry’s art focuses on manual methods and she frequently employs the slow, repetitive and meditative process of hand stitching as a fundamental element of her work.
