An Open Exhibition for Canberra’s Migrant Communities

Opening: 6pm Friday 30 August 2024

Exhibition: 31 August – 13 October 2024

Belco Arts is calling for entries for a new open art exhibition exploring migrant and refugee perspectives in the Canberra region.

From the political to the personal, and including everything from traditional art forms to contemporary perspectives, we invite you to share the stories of your experience as a migrant to the Canberra community.

Anyone who was born outside of Australia, and who lives within 100km of Canberra can enter their artwork.  Artworks can be in any medium, including 2 and 3 dimensional, but must be no larger than 60cm in any direction and must weigh less than 10 kgs.  Each artist can submit up to 2 works and artists at all stages of their careers are encouraged to submit.

All works that meet the submission guidelines will be exhibited, and all exhibited artworks will be eligible for consideration of the $500 People’s Choice Award.

Entry Form

Entry Terms and Conditions


  • Artists who were born overseas and who currently live within 100km of Canberra are eligible to enter.
  • Artists at any stage of their career, professional or amateur may apply.


  • Artists may enter a maximum of 2 works, and must complete the entry form in full, including submission of a high resolution images of each work.
  • Images should be between 1mb and 3mb in size, submitted as .jpg or .png
  • Artworks should be photographed from directly in front, in diffuse light, avoiding any shadows or reflections.
  • Each entry will be considered an individual work, NOT as a series. 


  • The works must be the original work of the entering artist.
  • The works must have been completed after 1 January 2023.
  • The works must relate to the theme.
  • The works may be in any medium and must be ready for exhibition.
  • Each artwork must not exceed 10kg in weight.
  • Each work must not exceed 60cm in any direction.
  • All works must have the artist’s name and title of the work written or printed on the back.
  • Works will need to be exhibited for the full duration of the exhibition.
  • The works must not be offensive, discriminatory, or otherwise hurtful in nature.  Works that are considered offensive, discriminatory, or otherwise hurtful in nature will not be displayed.  Belco Arts reserves the right not to exhibit works.
  • All works which meet the criteria will be exhibited.


  • There is no fee associated with entry in the exhibition.
  • All entries will be in the running for a $500 people’s choice award, which will take place at the conclusion of the exhibition.
  • Voting in the people’s choice awards will take place in the gallery and online from 30 August – 13 October 2024
  • Voting is open to the general public and only one vote per person will be accepted.


  • Artists may offer their works for sale during the exhibition.
  • Belco arts will take 35% commission on all sold works + 10% GST.  Artists should ensure that these costs are included in the advertised sale price.


  • Artists are responsible for the transport of the work to and from Belconnen Arts Centre and cover all costs for any freight/ courier fees.  All works that need to be returned should include return freight details and be paid for.
  • Works may be delivered during business hours (10am-4pm Tues-Sun), by post or courier at any time and must be received by 4pm Sunday 25 August 2024.  Works not delivered by this time will not be included.


  • Copyright for all works remains with the artist. 
  • By submitting their work, the artist grants permission to Belco Arts to use images of the artworks for the sole purpose of media and promotional purposes for promoting the Belconnen Arts Centre and its programs, by Belconnen Arts Centre Incorporated or artsACT (ACT Government).
  • There is no guarantee that photos or images will be used, and if they are, copies will not be sent prior to publication.
