Background
This Code of Conduct has been developed in consultation with the current members of the Multicultural Women’s Art Group (MWAG) and will apply to all members, present and future.
The aim of MWAG is to bring together women who have migrated to Australia from all over the world. In doing so, we will help to break down cultural hesitancy and barriers between people, bringing about a cohesive society in our new home, in which everyone is welcome, respected and valued for their personal presence as well as their inherited culture and life experience. Diversity is the strength of MWAG. We share various art techniques in our art workshops. We are all creative beings in ourselves and welcome learning about everyone else in our group.
As members of MWAG, we treat everyone with dignity and respect regardless of their race, age, national or ethnic origins, culture, skin colour, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, educational and personal achievements, or any other matter which causes people to be treated with injustice. We believe that we can break any barriers between people through art and sharing our creative abilities.
As members of MWAG, we
• Treat everyone with respect and courtesy in the spirit of our creative community; we support and encourage each other in every way possible
• Respect confidentiality of the group and each of its members
• Keep everyone’s safety in mind in everything we do
• Respect cultural diversity and welcome learning from others
• Are always accountable and responsible for our behavior
• Share our own views, but speak only on our own behalf
• Create original work for exhibiting. We understand that taking inspiration from others’ work is accepted in art, copying their work is plagiarism and breaches copyright law. This also brings disrepute to MWAG.
At all times we behave in a way that upholds the integrity and good reputation of MWAG. We recognise that MWAG is funded and supported by Gungahlin Arts. We will not write or speak on behalf of MWAG without prior permission from the group leader.
Breach of this code of conduct
Breach of this Code of Conduct enables the leader of MWAG to warn anyone who does not keep to the code. If the breach is persistent, that member may be asked to leave the group.
