Discover the world of colour relief printing with linocuts. Be guided through the steps of image design, transferring the image to lino blocks, carving and printing by hand and with a press. Learn how colours blend, layer and combine, and use reduction and multi-plate techniques to design and print your own multi-coloured graphic images on paper.
Each student will carve a small abstract block, and print it in combination with each other’s blocks to explore how colours interact.
Design an image for multi-block printing, and transfer to the blocks to begin carving (and possibly begin printing).
Finish printing the multi-block image.
See examples of reduction linocuts before designing your own to begin carving. Print the first colour.
Weeks 5 & 6
Continue working on your reduction-cut, carving and printing subsequent layers till completion.
