A Pencil, A Piece Of Lino And You

Lino Printing Masterclass with Micheal Winters

$635 per person

Take up this exclusive opportunity as one of a limited group of eight students over a six-week masterclass workshop series in multi block-coloured linocut printing, inclusive of all materials and equipment. Highly regarded artist and printmaker Michael Winters will lead students through the process of cutting the block, then printing as well as how to transfer information from one block to another for coloured printing. The course will result in the production of a 3 or 4 coloured A4 sized print in limited edition. Skills to be consolidated include developing the original idea for a print, the technical processes of producing linocut prints and providing students with the ability to independently produce linocut prints in the future.

Workshop Content

Week 1
Use of lino cutting tools, design concepts and transferring a design to lino and the use of a press. The course will be illustrated with examples of the artist’s work and will include instruction on Michaels’s own working methods.

Week 2
Cutting the block and producing a proof print, once the block is ready. Transferring information to a second block for colours.

Week 3-6
Cutting, printing, proofing through to the final printing to produce a signed edition of a finished print.


About Michael Winters

After completing four years of visual art studies, Michael Winters exhibited widely in Australia and Europe, including living and working in Greece for long periods. In 1966 he completed specialised printmaking studies in Sweden and in 2005, he mounted a major solo exhibition at the Australian War Memorial. He has an established international practice in multi coloured intricate linocut printing. He is highly regarded in Canberra for his teaching of visual art through the ANU’s Centre for Continuing Education & for his public murals in the ACT.
