A Rhizome Residency
12 January – 29 June 2021
Earthbound is in a 5-month residency at Belco Arts exploring the creation of new work with multidisciplinary artists from different generations. The group aims to develop a series of vignettes using storytelling, music, dance, drawing and ceremony.
Their residency is inspired by drawings of artist and group member, Sally Blake and the stories, images and mysteries associated with the “great goddess” named Gaia by both the ancient Greeks and today’s complex earth system scientists. Through their art practices, Earthbound members explore the question: What would it be like to be in harmony with nature again?
The Earthbound Group
Dancer-photographer Courtney Allen, musician-performance poet Danny Pratt, singer-songwriter-musical director Johanna McBride, visual artist Sally Blake, mythic theatremaker-poet Craig San Roque, choreographer-dancer-director Elizabeth Cameron Dalman OAM and Glenda Cloughley, songwriter and composer for A Chorus of Women.
Earthbound is a recipient of Belco Arts Rhizome Performing Arts Residency.
Our Rhizome residencies aim to generate collaborative partnerships that support artists and their original practice. This program generates unique opportunities to undertake activities that explore the Rhizome or root system of humanity. Resident artists can choose to interpret this in a variety of ways including an exploration of heritage, place in the world or links to community.
