Learn how to sculpt the human head with this introductory sculpture workshop with Dr Ali Aedy. You will discover different mediums and approaches to creating three-dimensional forms using wire and aluminium to explore lineal forms and clay to explore the human head.

Workshop Content

Week 1
Drawing in space, taking a line for a walk. Using various wires and aluminum. We will build lines and/or shapes. These pieces can then be joined together to build sculptures exploring abstraction by drawing in three dimensions in space.

Week 2
In this two week project, we will build a 3D head study using photographs as a reference. This project uses air drying clay which doesn’t require firing.

Week 3
Continuing to build our clay heads.


About Dr Ali Aedy

Dr Ali Aedy specialises in Sculpture. She/her lives and works on Ngunnawal land. Ali has been making since she was small with whatever she can find. Aedy graduated from the ANU in 1999 with a Bachelor in Visual Arts and completed her Doctorate of Philosophy in 2005.She has taught at the University of Tasmania, and The ANU and designed and run workshops for the National Museum of Australia. Aedy’s practice encompasses drawing, installation and sculpture. Aedy runs small group workshops, classes, events and mentoring sessions and has completed several public commissions in Tasmania.
