Adapt with Sculpture
With Sian Watson
10am-3pm Sunday 23 February 2020
Armatures and plaster have a long history in the artistic world of sculpture. These techniques and materials are frequently a key component in sculpture construction and provide a base to expand any visual arts practice. Come along and learn how to adapt your art practice to include armatures, plaster and develop new skills in wire drawing.
Students will work with modelling wire to develop their own figurative artwork, while also developing structural understandings of how to put together a three-dimensional artwork. Class tasks will include quick wire sketches, tackling the construction of different shapes and sizes of sculpture, and material exploration of armatures. By working through artist barriers such as gravity, artists will leave the class with new skill sets and a small wire sculpture that they can expand upon in their practice.
After lunch, students will delve into the material of plaster, developing skills on how to mix and use this material in a number of ways. Students will spend the afternoon covering armature with plaster to complete their small figurative sculpture. This workshop is suitable for beginners and those wishing to extend their sculpture experience.
